Welcome to the Auction Fantasy Football Blog! We aim to make this site a resource for all things Auction. FantasyAuctioneer.com used to be the only player in the online fantasy football auction game. Over the past few years quite a few players have emerged, including some of the big dogs. The reason for this is that Auction style is a more pure and skillful form of the game. If you're ready to take your league to the next level then keep this blog in mind. We'll post our own articles as well as links to some of the best resources we can find.

I put together my ideal team based on MyFantasyLeague’s 2009 Average Auction Values data found here.
$200 cap:
QB: Matt Schaub - $13
RB: Adrian Peterson - $47
RB: Pierre Thomas - $20
WR: Randy Moss - $33
WR: Eddie Royal - $16
RB/WR: Brian Westbrook - $28
TE: Greg Olsen - $9
K: Ryan Longwell - $1
DEF: San Diego - $3
B: LeSean McCoy - $9
B: Zach Miller - $4
B: Kevin Walter - $7
B: Josh Morgan - $4
B: Chris Henry - $3
B: Kyle Orton - $4
This roster adds up to exactly $200, and I love it. Schaub can produce the same average points per game as guys twice his price, so the value starts with him. That opens up space to bring in the best in the biz, Adrian Peterson, who could make history with the new threat of a passing game. Pierre Thomas and Brian Westbrook are simply great values this year, especially when you can lock up McCoy for under $10. Moss has 20 TD potential so I’ll pay for that. Royal is a great value considering how often he will touch the ball. WR is set, with Walter and Morgan as solid bye week fills. Chris Henry is the big sleeper for this team. Orton’s numbers are going to surprise people all the weapons there acclimate to McDaniels’ offense.
That starting line up is easily attainable thanks to the low cost of Schaub, Thomas, and Royal. Of course the auction never goes exactly as planned so have a backup of similar value in mind for each spot. Sacrifice bench depth quality for starting line up quality. Good luck!

If you’ve made your way to this site, you may already realize that FantasyAuctioneer.com is down this season. They were recently purchased by RotoExperts.com and are currently undergoing a massive redesign. My guess is they will be live again for fantasy baseball 2010. Auctioneer was the first site to enter the online auction game, but luckily for us other sites have followed in their footsteps. Look for all the major sites to add auction games over the next few years. That may not matter, though, as ESPN could corner the market with their offering.
ESPN already has its Fantasy Football Mock Auctions running. The lobby is nearly flawless. Test them out for yourself here: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/mockauctiondraftlobby. Be sure to do at least a few of these mock auctions before participating in your real one. Their actual auction leagues should be opening up soon. ESPN will provide everything you need to host your league’s auction online. ESPN dropped the ball on fantasy sports in the early years, letting sites like Yahoo and CBS get major market share. Now ESPN focuses on fantasy in a big way, and the fantasy community is taking notice. Kudos to ESPN for putting a solid auction product on the market.
If you came to this blog post in search of a site that sells a tool to help you run a live auction, check out Big Time Fantasy Sports Live Auction Tool. BTFS’s product lets your run an entire auction without an auctioneer. Everyone in attendance is given a button to press when they want to up the bid. If a leaguemate can’t be there in person he can participate over a high speed connection. It’s all run through a piece of software, so you don’t have to worry about draft boards and stickers. In my opinion it is the best live auction tool on the market.
